Lucknow Metro Rail: Union Cabinet Approves Phase-1B of Project, Includes 12 Metro Stations | Mobility News

Lucknow Metro Rail: The Union Cabinet has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project, which includes 12 metro stations, with a total outlay of Rs 5,801 crore. Phase-1B of the project will add about 11.165 km of new metro lines, greatly improving transport in the city’s oldest and busiest areas that currently have poor connectivity.

In Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro, seven stations will be built underground and five will be elevated. Once complete, the city’s metro network will grow to 34 km. This phase will connect important parts of old Lucknow, including busy markets like Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk; healthcare facilities such as King George’s Medical University; and tourist spots like Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Clock Tower, and Rumi Darwaza. It will also make it easier to reach famous food destinations in the city.

The new metro stretch will improve connectivity, boost tourism, help local businesses, and make travelling around the city faster and easier. It will also reduce traffic on crowded roads in old Lucknow, leading to shorter travel times, smoother vehicle movement, and better road safety.

With lower carbon emissions than regular road transport, the metro will also benefit the environment. Better links to the airport, railway stations, and bus depots will save time and improve productivity. Overall, Phase-1B will give people from all backgrounds better access to public transport, making travel more convenient and improving life in Lucknow. (With IANS Inputs)
