Commuting between Bengaluru and its neighboring cities is undergoing a major transformation. Public transportation networks are expanding beyond traditional city boundaries. Ramanagara and Kanakapura have long served as important extensions of the state capital.

Thousands of professionals, students and business owners live here. These residents travel on busy highways every day. This expansion responds to changing demographics as urban boundaries are blurring.

Relief for daily commuters

The arrival of BMTC in these areas is a long awaited relief. Historically, the journey into the center of Bengaluru was a test of endurance. Passengers previously depended almost entirely on KSRTC buses.

Although reliable, these buses were often overwhelmed by the number of passengers. During peak hours, they were often filled beyond capacity. This made long journeys physically difficult for those traveling to work or college.

The new Vajra Vistara air conditioned services provide better experience. These premium buses run from Majestic to Ramanagara and from Banashankari to Kanakapura. The transit experience moves from a struggle for space to a climate-controlled environment.

This change is significant for those who have endured highway heat for years. The corporation made this possible by increasing its operational range to 45 kilometres.

To meet growing public demand

Demand for the service increased following several state-led transit initiatives. More people shifted from private vehicles to public transportation. Existing infrastructure felt the resulting strain.

Residents and student groups became vocal about the need for better connectivity. He argued that his life was inextricably linked with the economy of Bengaluru. They needed a transportation system that treated them as part of the urban fabric.

The logic behind this expansion becomes clear when we look at the existing map. BMTC already had a strong presence in Bidadi and Harohalli. Ramnagar is just 15 kilometers ahead of Bidadi.

Kanakapura is located at a distance of only 18 kilometers from Harohalli. This expansion bridges a small geographical gap that was once a major barrier. The network now provides an uninterrupted link directly into the central business districts.

Fares and route details

The new services operate under the “Vajra Extension” (AC) brand, which means fares are calculated based on the standard BMTC AC distance slab. For the extended 45 km radius, the fare structure is as follows:

route point of departure Destination Estimated Fare (AC)
Majestic to Ramanagara Kempegowda Bus Station Ramanagara District Stadium ₹85 – ₹95
Banashankari to Kanakpura Banashankari TTMC Kanakapura Town ₹70 – ₹85

Note: Non-AC services (wherever available) are generally 40-50% less than the AC fares listed above.

Bus timing and frequency

To cater to the large number of daily commuters, the corporation has established a schedule that gives priority to peak-hour travel.

  • First bus: 6:30 am
  • Last Bus: 9:45 pm
  • frequency: Every 30 to 45 minutes during peak hours (morning and evening).
  • Banashankari to Kanakapura:
    • First bus: 6:00 am
    • Last Bus: 10:15 pm
    • frequency: Approximately every 20 to 30 minutes, as this route takes advantage of existing traffic towards the Art of Living and Harohalli areas.

main boarding point

Buses stop at several major intersections for those living along the highway. This “city-style” stopping pattern differentiates the BMTC service from KSRTC long distance buses.

  • Ramanagara Route Stop: Majestic, Satellite Bus Stand (Mysore Road), Rajarajeshwari Nagar Gate, Kengeri TTMC, Bidadi and Ramanagara.
  • Kanakapura Route Stop: Banashankari TTMC, Konankunte Cross, Thalaghattapura, Kaggalipura, Harohalli and Kanakapura.

A more integrated way of living

For modern travelers, this means a more integrated lifestyle. Students can now travel more safely to colleges in the city. Professionals can use their commute time more effectively in a quiet environment. As soon as these buses start plying regularly, the dependence on overcrowded options will reduce. Daily travel between these centers and Bengaluru is now a more efficient experience.
