A Russian whale watcher has been found alive, along with two dead relatives, two months after he set off.

State TV showed 46-year-old Mikhail Pichugin in a hospital in Magadan, talking and smiling after his ordeal.

Chief doctor Yuri Lednev said he was suffering from dehydration and hypothermia but was in a stable condition.

The family went missing after setting off for Sakhalin Island from Cape Perovsky in the Khabarovsk region on 9 August. A rescue effort failed to locate them.
