Marital relationships are often described as partnerships built on trust and mutual respect. However, when conflict escalates into sustained emotional distress and control, the results can escalate to violence. A recent case from Mysuru has brought this bitter truth to light, where the police have arrested a man accused of conspiring to murder his wife after years of alleged domestic feud.

The accused Mahesh, a resident of BM Sri Nagar in Mysuru, Karnataka, has been detained for hiring two people to murder his wife Nagarathna. Police say the plan was premeditated and involved making the crime look like an accident.

stressful marriage

Mahesh and Nagarathna were married 18 years ago and were living together in Mysore. According to investigation, Mahesh used to earn his living by working in Panipuri business. He was involved in training others and helping them set up Panipuri franchises, which was the family’s primary source of income.

Police records reveal that Mahesh will hand over his entire earnings to Nagaratna. He allegedly used this money to run a money lending business. However, investigators say Mahesh was not given access to the income when he needed it and this led to frequent fights between the couple.

Another factor that reportedly created tension in the relationship was the absence of children even after 18 years of marriage. Police say the issue led to frequent arguments, during which Nagarathna allegedly repeatedly verbally insulted Mahesh. Investigators have recorded statements claiming that she regularly belittled him and questioned his abilities.

Police believe that a combination of financial dependence, emotional distress and ongoing domestic conflict led Mahesh to plan an extreme act.

How the alleged murder conspiracy came to light

According to the police, Mahesh contacted two people named Bhaskar and Abhishek, who had earlier taken Panipuri franchise from him. Investigators say he offered them money to kill his wife and instructed them to make it look like a gas leak accident.

The plan revealed by the police involved entering the house under a familiar pretext, attacking Nagaratna and detonating a gas cylinder to destroy evidence.

On the day of the incident, Bhaskar and Abhishek had reportedly gone to the couple’s house. Since Nagaratna knew them, she opened the door without any suspicion. Police say what happened next was a violent attempt on his life.

Survivor tells about the attack

Nagarathna survived the attack and later gave a statement to the police explaining the sequence of events. She told investigators that the men initially behaved normally and even sat in the house. When she went to the kitchen to get milk from the refrigerator to make coffee for them, she hit her head and became unconscious.

Later when he regained consciousness, he came to know that the attackers had stuffed a cloth in his mouth and were trying to cause gas explosion. He was saved when the homeowner intervened, preventing the situation from escalating further and alerting the authorities.

Arrests and investigation

After the incident, the police registered a case and arrested Bhaskar and Abhishek. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to their involvement and named Mahesh as the person who had hired them to commit the crime. Based on this information, the police also arrested Mahesh.

The case has now been registered under relevant sections of attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and abetment.

Family disputes police version

After Mahesh’s arrest, his mother Kamalamma publicly defended her son. He alleged that the police used force during interrogation and claimed that his son was forced to confess to the crime. She also alleged that other accused were tortured and pressured to take Mahesh’s name.

Police have not commented on the allegations and say the investigation is progressing based on evidence, witness statements and forensic input.

A case that raises deep questions

The Mysuru case highlights how unresolved domestic disputes, financial control and emotional abuse can escalate into serious crimes. Police officials say that the case is still under investigation and more information will be revealed as the legal process unfolds.

The accused are currently in custody and the case will move through the judicial system in the coming days.
