Parliament session live updates: Priyanka Gandhi on suspension of MPs

Parliament session live updates: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on suspension of eight opposition MPs “What’s new here? You see it happening in every session. They are doing it even more now… This is not just a matter of not allowing the LOP to speak; this is a fundamental issue of democracy and the way Parliament works. Parliament is the temple of democracy… What is the problem if someone presents his views? They are afraid of what it will do.” Granted, as far as I know, there are things in the book that reflect the reaction of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defense Minister and our top leadership in a crisis situation. This clearly shows the character of them and their government when the country is under attack and Chinese troops are coming to our border.

Earlier, eight opposition members were suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remaining period of the budget session for violating rules and “throwing papers on the chair”.

Sub-section 1 of Rule 349 explains how members can refer to documents. It says, “While the House is sitting, no member shall (i) read any book, newspaper or paper except in connection with the business of the House.”

“This also means that a member can mention any of these if it is related to the functioning of the House,” former Lok Sabha Secretary General PDT Acharya told PTI.
