Naga Vamsi breaks silence on War 2 losses and receiving refund from YRF

In August, Ayan Mukerji`s Telugu film War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, was distributed by producer Naga Vamsi. At a pre-release function in Hyderabad to commemorate NTR`s Bollywood debut, he promoted the movie. In an interview with Great Andhra, Vamsi broke his silence amid rumors that he had invested Rs 100 crore and would suffer massive losses following the film`s failure.

Vamsi talks about the losses with War 2

There has been a chatter around Vamsi suffering “huge losses” ever since War 2 opened in theaters on August 14 and earned Rs 56.74 crore in Telugu in India out of a net total of Rs 236.55 crore. It was also thought by some that he had invested about Rs 100 crore and was having trouble recovering from the losses.

Vamsi then broke his silence on the matter, “Everyone on Twitter keeps speculating how much loss I’ve faced with War 2. I bought it for Rs 68 crore. It brought me a share of Rs 35-40 crore. Yash Raj Films called me to refund Rs 18 crore. I had already put forth this condition beforehand. Despite being a Bombay-based company and a corporate production house, they stuck to their word and returned this amount. So, I hardly faced any losses here.”

When the pre-release event for War 2 took place in Hyderabad, Vamsi advised Jr. NTR`s followers to make sure the movie made more money in Telugu than Hindi. “Our net in Telugu needs to be bigger than the net in Hindi, and it needs to be ten times bigger opening of Devara. Anna raised his collar for us today, and we need to ensure he can do the same all over India. If you watch this film and don’t come out satisfied, I’ll never ask you to watch my films again,” claimed the producer in a passionate speech.

When Vamsi reacted to the film crashing

Vamsi appeared humiliated by the outcome of World War 2 while promoting Mass Jathara with Ravi Teja in October. In an interview with Indiaglitz, Ravi pulled his leg, stating, “Baga excite ayavu (You got too excited),” adding that his remarks felt more like a warning than a plea. “I am only human, I made a mistake,” agreed Vamsi. Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films were trusted, whether it was me or Jr. NTR. It misfired, and they are among the largest producers. We are the ones who have to pay for their error. It`s not a movie we made, at least.

Despite the huge expectations surrounding its release, War 2 was met with a lackluster reception. Globally, it brought in Rs 364.35 crore.
