No sign of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in latest ICC ODI rankings

Stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have gone missing from the latest ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, released on Wednesday.

Just a week ago, Rohit was ranked No.2 in the world, following a stellar run in ODIs. Kohli was not far behind, holding the 4th spot with 736 rating points. As of August 20, both players are still active in the ODI format, although they are currently not part of India’s T20I or Test squads.

Interestingly, Shubman Gill has retained his position at the top of the batting charts with 756 points, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam has climbed to the second spot, seemingly replacing Rohit in the latest update.

The unexpected omission of Rohit and Kohli appears to be the result of a technical glitch or data update error on the ICC’s part. Given their recent performances and continued presence in the ODI setup, the likelihood of them being officially dropped due to inactivity is slim.

Both players were last seen in ODI action during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held in the UAE earlier this year. In what turned out to be a historic campaign, India lifted their first ICC ODI trophy in a decade, with both Rohit and Kohli playing pivotal roles.

Rohit was the architect of India’s triumph in the final, delivering a masterful innings under pressure and guiding India to a memorable win.

Kohli, meanwhile, showcased his trademark consistency throughout the group stages, particularly in challenging conditions at the Dubai International Stadium. Facing stiff competition from sides like New Zealand and Australia, Kohli anchored the Indian innings on multiple occasions, reaffirming his value in high-stakes matches.

Given their stellar performances and continued relevance in ODI cricket, the absence of Rohit and Kohli from the latest ICC rankings has drawn widespread attention and raised questions about the integrity of the update.

As of now, the ICC has not issued any clarification on the matter. If this omission is indeed an oversight, a corrected update can be expected soon.
