As the tourists began the session with pace from both ends, Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique started cautiously. Even when the spinners were introduced, Masood, who had taken the aerial route in the first session, chose to dial it down in the afternoon. Both batters brought up their fifties, with Shafique enjoying plenty of fortune along the way. Having already been dropped twice in the morning, he was put down again on 41, and a stumping chance went begging soon after he reached his half-century, before he was eventually dismissed.
