Parliament Winter Session Highlights, Constitution Debate in Rajya Sabha: A two-day special debate to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution will begin in Rajya Sabha on Monday amid rising tensions over a no-confidence motion brought by opposition parties against Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman initiated the debate from the government’s end. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will reply to the debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply is expected on Tuesday, the last day of debate in the upper house.

The discussion in the Rajya Sabha comes after two days of intense debate on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha, which witnessed several speakers from the ruling and opposition sides, taking on each other.

The debate in the lower house concluded with the reply from PM Modi, whose speech majorly revolved around praising the Constitution makers and the NDA government’s vision to strengthen it. He also underscored the role of women in the Constituent Assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday issued a ‘three-line whip’ for all its Rajya Sabha members of Parliament, urging them to be present in the Upper House on December 16 and 17 during the scheduled debate on the Constitution of India.

Around 73 lakh smart prepaid meters have been installed across the country till November, according to the official data which also showed ‘nil’ installations in 11 states and two Union Territories.

As per the data shared in the Parliament on Monday, around 73 lakh smart prepaid meters have been installed till November 29 in various states under the RDSS scheme.

Around 25 crore smart prepaid metres are to be installed by March 2025 under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), launched in July 2021, at an outlay of Rs 3.3 lakh crore.
