PM Modi In Mumbai Updates: PM Says Govt’s Target Is To Make India A Global Aviation Hub

Before the formal inauguration, the Prime Minister took a walkthrough of the newly constructed facility.

It is India’s largest greenfield airport project, developed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and is the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Modi also inaugurated Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line-3, stretching from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, constructed at a cost of Rs 12,200 crore.

He dedicated the entire Rs 37,270 crore Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) to the nation, marking a major milestone in the city’s urban transport transformation.

Modi also launched the Mumbai One app which offers commuters a range of benefits, including integrated mobile ticketing across multiple public transport operators.

He also inaugurated the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP) initiative of the Department of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation in Maharashtra.

While addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Navi Mumbai International Airport, PM Modi said, “Our target is to make India the global aviation Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub by the end of this decade.”

The country repeatedly has had to pay for this mistake by sacrificing lives. For us, nothing is more important than national security and the safety of our citizens….”

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), PM Modi said, “Now Mumbai has a new airport (NMIA), which will be Asia’s largest connectivity hub. Today, the city also has a fully underground metro to facilitate easy travel across Mumbai. Launching an underground metro with such careful construction in a city like Mumbai is a big achievement.”

PM Modi said that the airport’s lotus-shaped structure reflects our heritage and culture. It will boost trade with other countries and enhance access to the global market.”

Due to UDAN Yojana, lakhs of people have taken to the skies for first time in past decade, fulfilling their dreams, said PM Modi.

At the inauguration event, PM Modi said that Navi Mumbai International Airport and underground metro set to transform travel and connectivity in Mumbai.

He said that in 2014, there were only 74 airports in India, but now there are more than 160 of them.

“Navi Mumbai International Airport is a project which reflects ‘Viksit Bharat’…With this new airport, farmers in Maharashtra will be connected to the markets of the Middle East and Europe. This will attract investment and new businesses to the area. I congratulate the people of Maharashtra on the inauguration of this airport,” PM Modi said.

While the initial phase has a single integrated terminal for domestic and international operations, it will eventually have four terminals by the final phase. The NMIA has two ‘Code F’ compliant parallel runways – one with 3,700m length/ 60m width and the second with 3,700m length/ 60m width. The initial phase will have 20 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) and the initial cargo capacity will 0.5 million metric tonnes annually (MMTPA). Its IATA/ ICAO CODE is NMI/ VANM.

It is a green airport with 37 MW of green power being used. All vehicles will either be electric or run on alternative fuel and sustainable aviation fuel, which is being developed on a large scale. This airport will be a big centre where green fuel will be used on a large scale.”
