After establishing her name in the Gujarati film industry, Deeksha Joshi was seen in the 2022 film Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Kaushaljis vs Kaushal, and Dhadak 2. Now, the actor has forayed into television with Pushpa Impossible, joining the cast after the seven-year leap. A call for an audition from producer and creator JD Majethia set the ball rolling. Besides the opportunity to “learn from senior actors” on set, she says that the chance to collaborate with Majethia convinced her to take up the role.
“I have worked with JD sir before in a Gujarati series, but that never saw the light of day. I have grown up enjoying Sarabhai VS Sarabhai and Khichdi, so this is like my childhood dreams coming true,” she smiles.
Joshi also feels “inspired” by Pushpa’s spirit and journey. “I loved the fact that Dipti [her character] supports and finds ample backing and love from her mother-in-law Pushpa. I watched a few episodes [before signing up]. I like the themes they deal with,” explains the actor, who replaced Garima Parihar in the daily soap. Admitting that the pressures are high when joining a show mid-way, she adds, “Since the medium is new for me, I guess it will take me some time to adapt.”
After her Bollywood debut, instead of following the usual path of signing multiple films, Joshi chose to explore television. She says it was a deliberate decision to hone her craft. “I have explored films, stage, short format, and ads. I had no idea about television. Now that I have started shooting for the show, I feel TV is the most difficult medium. The better I get at this, the more technically sound I’ll become. It is something I am lacking in.”
