Two days later, Ashwin took to social media to respond to an outpouring of messages from teammates, fans, and well-wishers, combining gratitude with his signature wit.
The announcement on Wednesday left the cricket fraternity stunned. Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer,” Ashwin said before leaving the room without taking questions.

The announcement triggered a wave of tributes on social media. Former captain Virat Kohli shared an emotional post: “I’ve played with you for 14 years, and when you told me today you’re retiring, it made me a bit emotional. Flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me.”
Ashwin’s reply encapsulated their camaraderie: “Thanks buddy! Like I told you, I will be walking out with you to bat at the MCG.”

Former head coach Ravi Shastri also received a heartfelt message from Ashwin: “Thanks Ravi bhai.”

The legendary actor Kamal Haasan was on Ashwin’s gratitude list. To Haasan’s message, Ashwin replied, “Thank You Sir! Miss you in Big Boss,” a playful nod to Haasan’s hosting duties for the reality show, showcasing Ashwin’s lighter side.

One fan’s humorous tweet, calling Ashwin the “Only YouTuber to score a Test century,” drew a laughter emoji from the spinner.

Ashwin’s unique mix of heartfelt gratitude and cheeky humor has endeared him to fans beyond the cricket field. While his decision to retire remains a topic of discussion, his farewell tour on social media has reminded everyone why he’s a favorite both on and off the pitch.
Ashwin leaves behind a legacy of excellence, intellect, and humility, with fans cherishing his contributions to Indian cricket and looking forward to his next chapter.

Ashwin ended his 14-year international career with 537 wickets at average of 24 in 106 Tests and becoming India’s second leading wicket-taker after legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble. He also picked an incredible 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests, the second-most in the history of the game, along with eight ten-wicket hauls.
