Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is in Barcelona to complete a loan move, a person with knowledge of the transfer told The Associated Press on Monday.
The 27-year-old England forward is looking to revive his career after falling out with Red Devils coach Ruben Amorim after a prolonged lean patch. Rashford had spent the second-half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Spanish media said the one-year loan deal with United would give Barcelona an option to buy Rashford for about $35 million (Rs 302 crore).
Meanwhile, Liverpool have agreed to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth an initial $92 million (Rs 793 crore), according to reports on Monday. The English Premier League champions switched their focus to Ekitike following Newcastle’s refusal to sell striker Alexander Isak.
Newcastle and Manchester United were also interested in Ekitike, but Liverpool look set to win the race for one of Europe’s hottest young stars.
The 23-year-old Frenchman will link up with Arne Slot’s side on their pre-season tour of Asia. He is expected to bolster their front-line following the untimely death of Diogo Jota in a car accident on July 3, while mercurial Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez is also expected to leave the club.
Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions for Frankfurt last season after joining the Bundesliga club from Paris Saint-Germain.
