Former RCB owner Vijay Mallya reacted to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s emphatic win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, praising the team’s dominant showing in Mumbai.
Taking to social media, Mallya hailed “RCB namma Simhagalu,” calling them the lions of Bengaluru who “roared loud with bat and ball” to secure victory at MI’s home. The reaction quickly gained traction among fans, many of whom still associate him with the franchise’s early years and identity.

Mallya, who left India in March 2016, is currently based in England and is barred from leaving England and Wales. He faces allegations of defaulting on multiple loan repayments amounting to several thousand crores and was declared a Fugitive Economic Offender in January 2019 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, with extradition proceedings initiated thereafter. Despite the distance, he continues to follow RCB’s journey and respond to key moments.
On the field, RCB delivered a performance built on authority from the outset. Phil Salt provided early momentum with an aggressive start, setting the tone in the powerplay. Virat Kohli complemented that with a measured half-century, ensuring the innings had stability alongside intent.
The acceleration continued through Rajat Patidar, whose quickfire knock shifted the game decisively, while late contributions ensured RCB pushed well beyond the 200 mark to finish on 240. That total placed Mumbai under immediate pressure in the chase.
With the ball, RCB stayed in control through key phases. Suyash Sharma delivered crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs, removing set batters and preventing Mumbai from building sustained momentum. His spell ensured the required rate continued to climb.
Support came from Krunal Pandya, who kept things tight and controlled the tempo, while the rest of the attack maintained discipline.
A late surge from Sherfane Rutherford reduced the margin, but the result was never in serious doubt. RCB’s all-round display ensured they remained ahead throughout, sealing a statement win at Wankhede.
