Shreyas Iyer stable, replying to texts: Suryakumar Yadav says player out of danger

Shreyas Iyer is stable and is out of danger after his horrible injury at the Sydney Cricket Ground, said Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the first T20I match between India and Australia. Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, October 28, the India T20I captain provided the latest update on Iyer, who has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital since his nasty fall.

Shreyas Iyer landed awkwardly on his rib cage while taking the catch of Alex Carey at backward point. Iyer ran back and was able to keep a hold of the catch, however, was not able to get up on his feet. The medical staff of the Indian cricket team rushed out and had to carry Shreyas off the ground. Later, it was revealed that the player had to be rushed to the hospital due to a laceration on his spleen.

Suryakumar Yadav was asked about the latest update on the player. The captain said that Shreyas was stable and was replying to the text messages that he had been sending him. Surya said that Iyer is expected to remain under observation for a few more days, but is out of danger at the moment.

“The first day, when I got to know that he was injured, I called him. I got to know that he did not have his phone. So, I called the physio and he told me that he was stable. On day one you cannot be sure of anything. But I have been talking to him over the last two days and he has been replying on phone. If he is replying, it means that he is stable. He is looking good, the doctors are with him. But he will be under supervision for the next few days. But he has been replying, so that is good,” Suryakumar Yadav said ahead of the opening T20I.
