
On Day 2 of the first Test match against South Africa, Team India was bowled out for 189 runs in 62.2 overs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The hosts have now secured a lead of 30 runs.
Spinner Simon Harmer delivered a stunning performance as he claimed four wickets by conceding 30 runs in 15.2 overs.
Team India`s KL Rahul emerged as the highest run-scorer for the side. Facing 119 balls, he scored 39 runs, with the help of four boundaries and a maximum. With this, he also completed his tally of 4000 runs in the format`s history.
Fellow opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, departed after scoring 12 runs in 27 balls, including three boundaries. Washington Sundar scored 29 runs in 82 balls, which was laced with two boundaries and a maximum.
Skipper Shubman Gill retired hurt on four runs after facing three balls. His knock also included a boundary. Rishabh Pant accumulated 27 runs after facing 24 balls. In what was his comeback knock to international cricket, the left-hander also smashed two boundaries and the same number of maximums.
Ravindra Jadeja also scored 27 runs off 45 deliveries, with the help of three boundaries. Dhruv Jurel returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs off 14 balls, and also smashed three boundaries.
Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj were dismissed for one run each on eight and nine balls, respectively. Axar Patel registered a score of 16 runs after facing 45 balls. He also smashed two boundaries before getting dismissed. Jasprit Bumrah stayed unbeaten on one run in three balls.
Along with Harmer, Marco Jansen, too, delivered a crucial spell. Bowling a total of 15 overs, Jansen managed to pick three wickets for 35 runs. Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch also registered one wicket each to their names. Completing his quota of 16 overs, Maharaj was smashed for 66 runs, whereas Bosch gave away 32 runs in 11 overs.
Wiaan Mulder went wicketless in India`s first innings of the first Test match. He bowled five overs and conceded 15 runs.
