Sohum Shah reveals whether 'Tumbbad 2' will be made on a Rs 100 crore budget: 'It's true that part 2 is an expensive film...'

‘Tumbbad’, a cult classic released in 2018, initially failed to impress at the box office. However, its re-release in theaters marked a significant turnaround, captivating audiences and generating immense anticipation for a sequel. The sequel was officially announced through a post-credits scene during the re-release. Reports suggest that the second installment has been allocated a substantial budget of Rs 100 crore.
Recently, in an interview with Fever FM, actor Sohum Shah cleared the rumour about Rs 100 crore and said, “I don’t know how much ‘Tumbbad 2‘ is being made for, but it’s true that part 2 is an expensive film because our effort is to make it better than the first part. Even before the re-release of part 1, we were ready with a good budget. The producer called me and asked how much budget I wanted, but I told them there was no script. We struggled for six years and part 1 was released and became a hit; for people, box-office numbers don’t matter. When we started, there was nothing like that. Making that film was a unique task in itself. But now, finally, we have a script and will start the shooting by the end of 2025.”
‘Tumbbad’ tells the story of three generations of a family dealing with the fallout from building a temple. It’s a mythological tale about a goddess and her greedy first-born, Hastar, whose treasure the family seeks, leading to problems. It earned Rs 31.35 crore in its re-release, grossing Rs 37.75 crore at the Indian box office, which exceeded its original run and is now considered a successful re-release venture.
Meanwhile, Sohum is seen in the lead role in his recently released psychological thriller Crazxy. The movie is directed by Girish Kohli and produced by Shah.
