Tilak Varma shared an update on his head injury after India took an unassailable 2-1 lead in the three-match ODI series against South Africa on Wednesday. In the last over of the Proteas run-chase, Tilak banged the back of his head on the ground while trying to take a catch off Arshdeep Singh.
Tilak could not save the six, after which he landed awkwardly on his head. The physiotherapist checked for his concussion, after which he continued. Tilak said that he found it tough to take the catch since the ball came “through the lights”.

Tilak, however, was also delighted after India won the third T20I by 11 runs at the SuperSport Park in Centurion after the match went right down to the wire. “I am okay, the catch came through the lights, so a little difficult but happy for the win,” Tilak said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
‘Credit goes to captain Suryakumar’
Tilak won the Player of the Match award after he made an unbeaten 107 off 56 balls with eight fours and seven sixes. The left-handed batter also thanked skipper Suryakumar Yadav for showing faith in him and promoting him to No.3.
“I couldn’t imagine and I cannot put down in words. It was my dream and it was the right time to score a hundred for my team. A kind of a decider in the series. Under the pressure, it was a good knock. All credit goes to captain Suryakumar Yadav. He has given me an opportunity (at three),” Tilak added.
On the back of Tilak’s knock, India posted 219 for six, after which they restricted the Proteas to 208 for seven. Marco Jansen gave the visitors an almighty scare with a 16-ball fifty, but India managed to hold their nerves in the death overs.
Suryakumar’s India will now be looking to claim the series when the deciding game takes place on Friday, November 15 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
