Bangladesh erupts over Hadi’s death, India demands justice for Dipu Das: House of Hindu family burnt in Chattogram; Dhaka called Indian envoy, education advisor met Das’s family

While Bangladesh is struggling to deal with domestic unrest over the death of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi, India on Tuesday saw protests, mostly outside diplomatic missions, demanding safety of Hindus in the neighboring country and action against those who killed Dipu Chandra Das.

Hadi was shot at close range on 12 December of Dhaka in the Bijaynagar region, a day after the Election Commission announced that the next national election would be held on February 12. He died of his injuries on 18 December.

His assassination sparked widespread protests that escalated into arson and vandalism targeting major media outlets and cultural institutions. A senior student leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) of Bangladesh, Motaleb Sikdar, He was shot and injured by unknown assailants in Khulna on Monday.

Amid the chaos, on December 18, Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, was beaten to death by a mob and his body set on fire in Baluka, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on charges of blasphemy. The investigation revealed that he had not committed any blasphemous act. Gobinda Biswas, a Hindu rickshaw puller, was also attacked by a mob in Jhenaidah district of Khulna division on Friday because he wore a red sacred thread on his wrist, a symbol commonly worn by Hindus.

Bangladesh’s education advisor meets the family of Dipu Chandra Das

The Office of the Chief Adviser expressed deep sorrow over the recent murder of factory worker Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh and expressed its deepest condolences to his family. On the government side, Education Advisor Professor CR Abrar met the family in Mymensingh on Tuesday to assure them of the government’s sympathy and assistance during this difficult time.

“The Interim Government reiterates that this murder was a heinous criminal act that had no justification and has no place in Bangladeshi society. Allegations, rumours, or differences of belief can never condone violence, and no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. The Government reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the rule of law. The authority to investigate alleged crimes and ensure justice through due process rests solely with the State. 12 persons have been arrested. The interim government has directed that such acts of violence will be dealt with with full force of law. It calls on all communities, institutions and leaders to oppose attempts to create violence and unrest. “Calls for respect for the law. The Office of the Chief Counsel confirms that financial and welfare support will be provided to Dipu Chandra Das’s family, and the relevant authorities will remain in close contact with them in the times to come. The interim government reiterates its resolve to protect all citizens and ensure that justice is served.”

Bangladesh called the Indian ambassador

Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma to express “serious concern” over previous protests outside its visa centres.

The chief adviser told Gore that Hasina’s supporters were allegedly spending millions of dollars to disrupt the electoral process and that their fugitive leader was inciting violence. However, he stressed that his government is “fully prepared” to deal with any challenge.

Professor Yunus said, “We have about 50 days before the elections. We want to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections. We want to make it remarkable.”

Indian visa services resume in Bangladesh

The suspension in Chittagong came amid heightened tensions following the death of Sharif Usman Hadi, a prominent youth leader and former student protest personality whose killing sparked unrest in several parts of the country. During the violence, several incidents of vandalism, including stone pelting, were reported at the residence of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Chittagong.

The Indian Visa Application Center in the port city said visa services would remain closed until further notice, adding that a decision on reopening would be taken after reviewing the local security situation.

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Tuesday protested against the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to either bring Hindus to India or ensure their safety there. The lawyers also demanded that illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants be expelled from Jammu.

Bhopal: Vishwa Hindu Parishad along with Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations protested in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal on Tuesday against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh and the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Tuesday detained Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members who were protesting against the recent lynching and murder of a Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, and calling for strict action against targeted atrocities in Bangladesh.
