When a Bangalore talks about the streets, people often imagine traffic congestion, pot-hold artery roads and severe waterfall images throughout the city. However, all this is ready to change.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palik (BBMP) has tried to work engineers on the construction of the roads with the campaign ‘Namma Rest, Namma Heme’ (our roads, our pride).

BBMP engineers say that the road infrastructure of Bengaluru has been set for a major overhaul with an aggressive push for white-topping, which avoids a long-term, low maintenance solution to handle the city’s growing traffic. Has been given.

What is white-topping?

BBMP Chief Engineer Dr. BS Prahlada specifically speaking to News18, said that white-topping is the best solution for the road infrastructure issues of Bengaluru and will not only improve road durability, but will reduce pits, enhances comfort, increases rest Is, and low air pollution.

“We are telling our officers that they do not only build roads, make them with accountability with the right sense of engineering, and proud of it. We are proud of the people involved in the construction of the road. ‘Namma Rest, Namma Heme (our roads, our pride). If an engineer who has built roads is not proud of his work, then the work will be fruitless. We are creating a sense of accountability and pride, and thus, it will also be associated with him and people, “said Senior Officer Dr. Prahlad Rao.

Rao reported that during the meeting of global investors, the BBMP was able to show how white-topping roads ticked all boxes of stability, longevity, visibility, hygiene and beauty with ticketing with roads.

“An engineer should feel proud of his work, one who lasts for at least three decades. This will also create confidence in the people, “the senior official said.

It is reported here that the civic body of the city has planned to improve the infrastructure of the road of IT capital.

The white-topping drive started in 2015-16 with an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for the first two phases under the previous Congress government. The project is being promoted as a permanent option, the authorities have reduced its durability and maintenance costs.

He said that between 2015-16 and 2017-18, a total of 196 km of roads in Bengaluru were white-tops. In 2022-23, one and 10 km completed. The government has now decided to expand white-topping, which currently has a process of 154 km.

Bangalore’s artery and sub-ride roads, where 70 percent of traffic flows, is 1,682 km in total. This year, by August-September, white-topping will cross 360 km, with a target of completing an additional 450 km by 2025–26. Dr. Rao said, “This will provide a spontaneous, strong and easily running experience to the passengers.”

White-top roads are being promoted as a cleaner, which is a more durable option for black-top roads. White-top roads provide better visual hygiene as they appear nuts and are easy to maintain. Whether it is sweeping, green hedging, or water collection, white-topping makes maintenance more efficient.

Dr. Rao also dismissed concerns that white-topping would dry up the region, stating that it could be allowed to cross at a systematic process and interval to collect fresh rainwater.

According to the BBMP expert, one of the major benefits of white-topping is its long life. Roads last for more than 25 years, giving them a cost -effective solution. Another benefit is low maintenance because white-top roads do not develop pits and require less repair than black-top roads. Riding comfort is also a major factor because smooth roads improve commuting experience. Inside the city, all departments include water supply, beSCOM, and KPTCL-to plan long-term solutions so that the infrastructure work is efficiently completed before laying white-topping.

Experts said that white-top roads have dried water in nearby water channels, resolving the issue of waterlogging or pit. (News18)

“People will get long-term unmatched services that cannot provide black-top roads, often damaged or dug for repair. More than a decade we have seen through tests and implementation that white-top roads ensure a smart city solution, “the official said.

Dr. Rao said that Bangalore’s growing vehicle population and heavy traffic stress have also been an important reason for change towards white-topping.

He said that black-top roads are unable to withstand continuous, high-rich vehicles loading, making rapid wear and tears. He said that this is not only a quality issue, but a fundamental problem with materials, which is not designed to handle such heavy traffic stress. On the other hand, white-top roads, efficiently, can maintain repeated load cycles, making them a more durable solution for the city’s infrastructure needs.

Bangalore’s urban development should be overall and white-top roads, combined with good footpaths made of coblastone and uninterrupted pedestrians, both motor drivers and pedestrians will benefit. Dr. Rao also said that wearing and tears on white-top roads is negligible, which has reduced air pollution across the city and has improved air quality.

“Our effort is to ensure that with better roads that have such a long -term continuous ability, the traffic congestion will also decrease,” Dr. Rao said. He said that contractors are responsible for maintaining both quality and quantity of work, making the roads for decades ensuring that it ensure. Project.

The cost-effectiveness of white-topping is another advantage. Dr. Rao said that while more money is being spent in advance, the cost of almost zero-ravages means that resources can be saved and re-established for future projects. The money that has gone into the road repair repeatedly can be used for planning and implementation of new infrastructure.

Another often unseen advantage of white-topping is its effect on the city’s aesthetics. Officials believe that it combines Bengaluru’s hygiene and visual appeal. They argue that bitumen roads hold water under the layers, which later make craters, causing pits. On the other hand, white-top roads have dried water in nearby water channels, resolving the issue of waterlogging or pit.

Washing white-top roads will give the city a clean form, which will help the city become one of the best in the world in terms of infrastructure.

“This is our aim. We should be like global cities and compete that can provide better quality infra, “an official said.

“The ability to keep the roads free from dust or to clean them with regularity is also expected to provide relief to those who suffer from allergies and bring down the AQI level, making Bengaluru a breathable city. “

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar, who oversee the development of Bengaluru, recently inspected the white-topping works going on in many parts of the city, given that 97 roads were working on the roads, in which the 150 km network was covered Was done.

Shivkumar said that the project has an 11 -month time limit, an additional 450 km with a second phase is planned to white, bringing up to 1,700 km of the total advanced road network. Speaking on the purpose of his inspection, he said: “I am here to ensure proper coordination between various agencies and to maintain the time of budget, while achieving the prescribed goals.”
