UAE News Live: Gulf country ready to join fight, reports ask US to capture islands in Strait of Hormuz

UAE News Live: A ferry passes through a plume of smoke rising from Jebel Ali port following an alleged Iranian attack in Dubai on March 1, 2026.

UAE News Live Updates: The United Arab Emirates is preparing to join the US-Iran war and could support efforts to forcefully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to a news report. This comes as Iran continues to attack the UAE and other Gulf countries in response to US-Israeli attacks on its territory.

Read more details about the UAE’s potential move here.

Will the UAE join the US war effort against Iran?

The UAE is “willing” to join the US-Iran war, a move that could make it the first country from the Persian Gulf to directly participate in the conflict, The Wall Street Journal quoted officials as saying.

The country’s diplomats have reportedly urged the US and military powers in Europe and Asia to join hands and form a coalition to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The report said the UAE believes that countries in Asia and Europe, which are currently on alert, could take part in clearing the strait if they receive UN Security Council approval.

Gulf officials said the country’s stance has now changed. An official told the publication that before the war broke out on February 28, the UAE viewed Iran as a difficult neighbor, but one whose actions followed a certain logic.

However, once the conflict began, officials said it exposed a very different side of the regime, which led to attacks aimed at instilling panic, including attacks on hotels and airports in Dubai.

Iran’s continuous attacks on UAE

Iran has responded to America and Israel by intensifying its attacks on the United Arab Emirates. After several weeks of relatively limited action, missile and drone attacks have increased sharply in recent days. On Tuesday alone, about 50 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones were launched at the emirate.

Tehran has warned that it will target key civilian infrastructure in any Gulf country that supports moves to take control of its territory, and has specifically named the United Arab Emirates.

So far, Iran has launched nearly 2,500 missiles and drones at the UAE, more than directed at any other country, including Israel. Despite this, the UAE, like other Gulf countries, had long avoided presenting itself as a direct participant in the conflict.

UAE Airlines says country has banned Iranian travelers

The United Arab Emirates has barred Iranians from entering or transiting through the country as the conflict continues, three major airlines said on Wednesday.

Long-haul airlines Emirates and Etihad shared the update on their websites, along with low-cost airline flydubai.

The UAE’s entry rules can sometimes be unclear, the airline said. This order applies to the federation of seven sheikhs. However, those holding a 10-year Golden Visa residency permit are still allowed entry.

No official statement has come from the authorities yet. Meanwhile, Dubai has already closed the Irani Hospital and the Irani Club, both long-standing institutions of the Shah’s era.
