Equipped with Ground Periting Radar, on Tuesday (August 12, 2025), experts from the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) began a search operation to trace 66 people including 24 Nepali laborers, in which the water and Madslides of the village had reported about half of the Dharali village.

Ground Penetrating radar (GPRS) is a geophysical method that uses radio waves to detect objects and structures below the surface.

The NGRI used its GPR in February this year to find out those trapped in the collapse of the SLBC tunnel in Telangana.

These radars of NGRI can also detect human life even in the presence of mud and water, the authorities said that GPR survey will also detect discrepancies within the debris.

JCB operators were engaged in restoring road connectivity in the affected area, as it fell into the rising water of the Bhagirathi river. Officials said a discovery is going on to locate it.

Three people were reported missing in the disaster, out of which the body of a youth of Dharli village was recovered a few days ago, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said on Monday (August 11).

He said that the East-Gratia announced by the state government has also provided immediate relief to the family of the deceased youth.

42 Those who are still missing include Navy Army personnel, eight residents of Dharli village, five from nearby areas, one person from Tehri district, 13 from Bihar and six from Uttar Pradesh.

Uttarakhand HC deploys dedicated team

Sachin Kumar, a civil judge of Uttarakhand, recently spoke on the devastating Uttarkashi flood, saying that the High Court will deploy a dedicated team of doctors and others to visit the site and prepare a report.

“The Supreme Court has a department called Nalsa to help the victims of such disasters. On the instructions of the Nanital High Court, our District Legal Services Authority has been instructed to deploy our dedicated team, including doctors, NDRF, SDRF, Advocates and physicians,” said Justice Kumar.

“They will visit the site and prepare a report on the facilities that the victims are currently receiving, it is also involved whether they are receiving enough food and addressing their other basic needs. We will compile this report and send it to the High Court. It will undoubtedly benefit the victims. We will also try to implement those schemes which will try to implement them.

Officials continued air operations for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) to save people trapped in Dharli and Harsil areas in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

Officials said that people trapped in the Dharli-Harsil disaster are being rescued through helicopters and brought into the Matli helipad, from where arrangements have been made to ensure their safe arrival at their destination.

Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI, “After a disaster in Dharli, about 1,278 people from other states trapped in Gangotri Dham were vacated. The operation is now complete. Electricity and mobile network have been restored.”

He said, “Valley Bridge has been restored, and road connectivity should be restored by evening. Essential supply of food, warm clothes and daily items has come for distribution. The district officials monitored the situation as assistance of Rs 5 lakh declared by CM,” he said.

The commissioner said, “A three -member committee appointed by CM has come to assess relief and rehabilitation packages. They will submit a initial report in a week and a final report within a month.”
