Vijay says he needs ‘justice’ for Jana Nayagan delay and Karur stampede as he alleges ‘conspiracy’ around TN elections

Tamil star and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay filed his nomination for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections in Trichy on Thursday. After filing it, he spoke to the crowd that gathered to meet him and alleged a conspiracy around stalling his final film, Jana Nayagan’s release and the Karur stampede that took over 40 lives. Vijay on ‘conspiracy’ surrounding Jana Nayagan, Karur

Addressing the crowd in Trichy, Vijay said, “I don’t need to tell you how all the parties have come together to oppose your Vijay. As many said, the conspiracy around the Karur incident, and the fact that my final film Jana Nayagan could not be released…What if it made our close-to-heart relationship even stronger? And what if that film became a powerful weapon in the elections? As a brother, son, as your Vijay, I need justice”

He also reiterated what he said during previous public gatherings, that he gave up a life of luxuries to stand with the people. “I have come here for you, even though I have a luxurious life. I am coming only to repay your gratitude and bear all the pain,” said Vijay, adding, “I will never lie or deceive you. Do you want (current CM MK) Stalin, who works against people, or Vijay, who works for them? That’s all this election is about.”

During his speech, Vijay also called the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government an ‘evil force,’ asking the voters to ‘throw it’ out of power in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. The actor is contesting elections for the first time via TVK. He will contest as a candidate in Perambur and Trichy East.

Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan

H Vinoth-directed Jana Nayagan was supposed to hit screens on January 9 for Pongal as a final celebration for Vijay’s fans before he enters politics. Even as the film’s producers, KVN Productions, heavily marketed the film and later argued in court that they would face an over 100 crore loss from a delay, the release was postponed amid delays in certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Also starring Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, Jana Nayagan is touted to be an adaptation of Anil Ravipudi’s Balakrishna, Sreeleela and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer Bhagavanth Kesari (2023). The film was initially supposed to be certified UA 16+, the producers said in court, but was sent to the revising committee at the last minute. The CBFC told the court that it had received a complaint from a member of the examining committee that the film contained objectionable scenes.
