Renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal turns a year older today and also completes 24 glorious years in the Hindi film industry.
Shreya, who has belted out chartbuster tracks like Deewani Mastani, Mere Dholna, Chikni Chameli, Manwa Laage, Teri Ore, Aashiyan, among numerous others, marks her 42nd birthday. She received a plethora of wishes and messages from fans and members of the industry.
Shreya Ghoshal`s Bollywood journey
At six years old, Shreya started formal classical music training under the guidance of legendary musicians Kalyanji and Mukta Bhide.
In 2000, at just sixteen years old, she participated in the TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, where she caught the discerning eye of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He and music director Ismail Darbar gave her the opportunity to lend her voice to the character of Paro in the magnum opus Devdas.
She sang five songs for the film, including Bairi Piya, Dola Re Dola and Silsila Ye Chahat Ka, collaborating with legendary singers such as Kavita Krishnamurthy, Udit Narayan, Vinod Rathod, KK, and Jaspinder Narula.
Her song Jaadu Hai Nasha from 2003`s Jism further signalled to the world that she was an accomplished singer.
Since then, Shreya has graduated from being a new voice on the block to one of the most powerful and enchanting vocalists in the country.
In her memorable career, which is yet to achieve more milestones, she has graced over 400 Bollywood movies with her melodious voice. She has also effortlessly crooned in multiple languages, such as Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. Her songs always have what seems to be missing in many songs today – melody.
She has earned numerous awards, including six National Awards and five Filmfare Awards.
Indian Idol judges wish Shreya Ghoshal
Besides singing, Shreya also judges the television show Indian Idol, offering guidance to younger singers. To commemorate her birthday, her fellow judges from Indian Idol extended their warm wishes.
