Will Virat Kohli lead Royal Challengers Bangalore to IPL title in 2025?

NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli has been the face of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), embodying the team’s spirit and commitment despite the ups and downs over the years.
And with Kohli set to return as RCB captain in 2025, the biggest question is will he lead the franchise to their maiden IPL title?
Kohli is one of the few players who have remained with a single franchise since the inception of the IPL in 2008. His loyalty to RCB has been unwavering, making him not only a fan favorite but also a symbol of the team’s identity. His long-standing association reflects his commitment to building RCB’s brand.
Kohli took over RCB’s captaincy in 2013 and led the team until 2021. Under his leadership, RCB reached the playoffs four times, including the final in 2016. That season was a standout year for him personally, as he scored a record-breaking 973 runs, including four hundred. However, despite his efforts, the team never clinched the title during his captaincy, which remains one of his biggest unfinished goals.
Kohli is RCB’s highest run-scorer and the top run-getters in IPL history with 8004 runs from 252 runs. No one in the history of the IPL has breached the 7000-run mark.
Kohli was also the highest run scorer in the 2024 scoring 741 runs with a highest score of an unbeaten 113.
Kohli’s ability to chase down targets, build innings, and score consistently has been crucial for RCB. His partnerships, particularly with players like AB de Villiers, have produced some of the most memorable moments in IPL history. Kohli’s aggressive, fearless approach has also set the tone for RCB’s brand of cricket.
After stepping down from the captaincy, Kohli focused more on his batting, aiming to regain consistency and anchor the innings for RCB. While he has had some ups and downs, his role has shifted towards providing stability and setting up the game for the finishers. His recent form in the IPL has shown glimpses of his vintage self, with strong, impactful performances.
Even after stepping down from the captaincy, Kohli remained a leader within the team and guided young players and motivating teammates. His presence continues to influence RCB’s culture, emphasizing fitness, intensity, and a winning mindset.
Though Kohli’s journey with RCB has seen highs and lows, his legacy with the team is undeniable. He remains hopeful to lift the IPL trophy with RCB, which would be a fitting reward for his loyalty and contribution to the franchise. Fans and analysts alike look forward to his continued journey with the team, hoping he can achieve the one goal that has eluded him so far: an IPL title with RCB.
