Simran Shaikh, Deandra Dottin, G Kamalini and Prema Rawat stole the limelight in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction after becoming the top picks. On Sunday, December 15, five teams bought 19 players and spent Rs 9.05 crore. Shaikh, who was earlier with the UP Warriorz, became the highest-paid player in the auction after Gujarat Giants shelled out Rs 1.90 crore for her.
The Giants also bolstered their squad with Deandra Dottin, the first player to be auctioned, for Rs 1.70 crore. 16-year-old G Kamalini fetched a whopping Rs 1.60 crore from 2023 champion Mumbai Indians. Kamalini played a match-winning hand on Sunday, helping India beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the Women’s U19 Asia Cup match in Kuala Lumpur.
Uttarakhand leg-spinner Prema Rawat got Rs 1.20 crore from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who also roped in Joshitha VJ, Jagravi Pawar and Raghvi Bist. Delhi Capitals strengthened their squad with the inclusion of hard-hitter Nandini Kashyap, Scotland wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce and Niki Prasad, the skipper of the Women’s U19 team.
Nadine de Klerk, who was a part of RCB last season, will now play for Harmanpreet Kaur’s MI. Australian leg-spinner Alana King, who also plays for Perth Scorchers in the WPL, will play for the UP Warriorz. Amongst the big players, Sneh Rana, who was the stand-in skipper for the Giants in the first season, did not find a buyer.
