In the WPL 2026 match against Gujarat Giants (GG), Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged victorious by seven wickets at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
During the match, Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 71 runs off just 43 deliveries. Her knock was laced with seven boundaries and two maximums.
Reflecting on her knock, she said that in a tournament such as WPL, a team needs to score 200 runs. She also revealed that her team`s batswomen were calculating the score and batting accordingly.
“It was a good game. While bowling, we gave away too many runs. Batting-wise, we were good, calculated really well. She (Amanjot) batted really well. In a tournament like this, every day you have to try and score 200 batting first or chase that many. You know you have to go and bat for your team. We have to calculate and keep batting accordingly. When you have that much clarity, you can just execute,” Harmanpreet said during the post-match presentation.
With this, she also completed 1016 runs in the tournament`s history. She also became the second woman to accomplish the feat of 1000 runs in the tournament after Nat Sciver-Brunt.
After this victory, the Mumbai Indians have now won all eight games against the Gujarat Giants in WPL history. That remains the only 100 per cent record for a team against an opponent in the competition`s history.
Speaking further, the 36-year-old cricketer sees every match as an important game and also credited her teammates for delivering performances.
“For me, every match is important. I didn`t know this stat. Important for me to go in every day and bat for my team. Good to see all these (youngsters) girls taking responsibility and doing their bit for the team. Aman is someone who is willing to bat wherever. Whenever the team needs, they are there,” she said.
Harmanpreet brought up her 10th fifty-plus score in the tournament`s history, outdoing Mumbai Indians` Nat Sciver-Brunt and UP Warriorz`s skipper Meg Lanning (nine each).
Currently, MI is placed second on the points table with four points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.901.
