WPL 2026: Harmanpreet Kaur wins toss, elects to bowl first against GG

In the WPL 2026 match against Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

The “Paltan” will enter the clash on the back of one victory and one loss. They will look to secure another win in order to take an edge in the ongoing competition.

On the other hand, the Giants have registered two wins in as many matches and will aim to continue on their momentum.

After winning the toss, Harmanpreet stated that during night matches, she prefers chasing and also said that the team has been ticking all the boxes so far. The skipper also added that the side is focused on batting positively in the first six overs.

Hayley Matthews will feature for the “Paltan” in this match. Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss out on the game as she is not feeling well.

Mumbai`s captain is also falling short of just 55 runs to achieve the feat of becoming the second player to complete 1000 runs in the history of the Women`s Premier League.

Currently, she has scored 945 runs in 29 WPL  matches for the “Paltan”. With a top score of an unbeaten 95 runs, she also has nine half-centuries to her name.

On the other hand, GG captain Ashleigh Gardner said that the powerplay phase has been huge for the side, and they have got a good amount of experience in their lineup with Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine. She is also hopeful of putting a big total on the scoreboard against MI.

Anushka Sharma will miss the match for Gujarat due to injury, and Ayushi Soni is set to make her debut in the competition.

GG will heavily rely on their skipper, Gardner, to provide stability in the middle-order. In their previous match against Delhi Capitals (DC), she had smashed 49 runs in just 26 balls, with the help of four boundaries and three maximums.
