NEW DELHI: Playing his first-ever Ranji season, Tejasvi Jaiswal notched up a solid 82-run knock for Tripura against giants Baroda in the Elite Group A in Agartala on Friday.
The 27-year-old, who is elder brother of swashbuckling India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, scored a top knock in his third game of the debut season for Tripura.
Just like his brother, Tejasvi, a left-hander scored a solid 82 off 159 balls on the third day of the game. His knock included 12 fours and a maximum and came at a strike rate of 51.57.
Prior to the clash against Baroda, Tejasvi had a couple of below-par outings where scored 4 and 13 in the two Ranji games against Mumbai and Meghalaya respectively.
Against Baroda, the Tripura no.3 Tejasvi came in after a solid 148-run opening stand between Bikramkumar Das and Jiwanjot Singh.
After the fall of Das for 97, Tejasvi and Jiwanjot stitched yet another century-plus stand before the latter was dismissed for 94.
Tejasvi then added 27 runs for the fourth and inched closer to his maiden ton before unfortunately falling in the 85th over. Leg-pinner Shivalik Sharma got the better of Tejasvi as he was caught by substitute fielder Kinit Patel in the second session.
The solid knock from Tejasvi after top-class efforts from openers Das and Jiwanjot took Tripura into lead of the third day.
Earlier, Baroda, riding on Jyotsnil Singh’s 46, Atit Sheth’s 78 and a 49-run knock from Mitesh Patel got to 235 before folding in 82.2 overs.
In Elite Group A table, Tripura are currently on the third spot with a win, a draw and a no result.
