Commuters planning to travel on the Yellow Line of Namma Metro on Sunday, December 21, should be prepared for a delayed journey as train services on this corridor will start one hour later than usual. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has issued an advisory stating that Yellow Line services will start at 8 am instead of the regular 7 am start time.
The Yellow Line connects RV Road to Bommasandra and plays an important role in connecting South Bengaluru with the Electronic City industrial and IT corridor. The delay applies only to this line, while services on other Namma Metro corridors will continue to run as per their normal Sunday schedule.
reason for late start
According to BMRCL, the reason for the late start is scheduled maintenance and system-related works that require additional time before passenger services can be started safely. Although officials have not specified the exact nature of the work, such maintenance typically involves checks and upgrades related to signaling systems, power supplies, communications networks or control room software.
Metro officials have indicated that these actions are necessary to ensure operational safety and reliability. By choosing Sunday morning and limiting the delays to a single corridor, BMRCL says it aims to minimize disruption for weekday peak hour commuters, who form the bulk of daily ridership.
Impact on early morning travelers
The delayed start may cause inconvenience to commuters who rely on Yellow Line services early on Sunday morning. This includes office goers working weekend shifts in the Electronic City, hospital staff, students attending coaching classes and commuters going to the bus terminal or railway station for onward journey.
Passengers who usually plan first mile and last mile connectivity around the 7 am service may need to reschedule feeder bus connections, auto pickups or cab bookings. Once the services begin at 8 am, trains are expected to operate as per normal timetable for the rest of the day.
Crowds are expected near the revised start time
Stations on the Yellow Line corridor, especially high-footfall stations like Central Silk Board, Jayadeva and Bommasandra, may see crowding closer to the revised start time as passengers adjust their travel plans. Passengers arriving early may have to wait longer on the platform, especially if many passengers congregate around the first few services of the day.
Travelers are advised to take this potential congestion into account when planning their journey, especially if they are traveling with luggage or have time-sensitive commitments.
BMRCL’s advice to passengers
BMRCL has advised passengers to plan in advance and make alternative arrangements if they need to travel before 8 am on Sunday. Commuters may consider using BMTC bus services, autos or other available transport options during morning hours when metro services on the Yellow Line are not operational.
Those planning interchanges with other metro lines should also take into account the delayed start, as connections to the Yellow Line will not be possible until services begin.
Check service updates before leaving home
Commuters are encouraged to check the latest service status before visiting metro stations. Updates related to any changes in the delayed start and service restoration are expected to be shared through official BMRCL communication channels, including the Namma Metro app, station announcements and official social media handles.
Tracking real-time updates can help passengers avoid unnecessary waits at stations and plan alternative routes if necessary.
Operations normal from Monday
The delayed start is a one-day arrangement that applies only to Sunday, December 21. BMRCL has indicated that Yellow Line services are expected to resume normal operating hours from Monday, with trains running as per the standard weekday schedule.
For travelers, the main solution is to adjust Sunday morning plans accordingly. Leaving home a little later, checking for updates in advance and considering alternative travel options can help avoid inconvenience caused by temporary changes in Yellow Line operations.
