Zaid Darbar and Gauahar Khan have long been regarded as one of television’s most grounded and loving couples — a bond that began during the uncertainty of the lockdown, when both found solace in each other. But behind the harmony, the couple has also dealt with family perceptions and old-school opinions about Gauahar’s profession.Now, Zaid has opened up about how he handled questions about his wife’s career within his own home.
Zaid recalls being asked about Gauahar’s profession
Zaid and Gauahar appeared together on Rashami Desai’s podcast, where Zaid revealed that even he faced questions about “what the girl does” from his family. He responded in a way that firmly set boundaries.Sharing how he tackled the questions, Zaid said, “Mujhe bhi pucha tha ladki kya karti hai, mai ne bola mai bol raha hoon aaja na meri shaadi mein, invitation de raha hoon. Mujhe sawal nahi karna koi bhi kuch bhi. Mai ne bahut ache se actual mein yeh bola hai.”Rashami initially assumed he was referring to Gauahar’s family, but Gauahar clarified that Zaid was speaking about his side.She explained, “He is talking about his side, kyunki ladki kya karti hai vo bhi doubt ho sakta hai na. Ya ki hume kis tarah ki ladki chahiye vo bhi ek question aata hai.”
Ismail Darbar earlier expressed discomfort with Gauahar’s profession
This conversation comes months after Zaid’s father, music composer Ismail Darbar, publicly admitted that he was uncomfortable with aspects of Gauahar’s work. In an interview with Vicky Lalwani, he shared his conservative outlook, explaining that he grew up in a household where even mildly sensuous scenes in films made the family look away.He had said, “Look, I come from a backward family. We used to turn away whenever a sensuous type of scene would come in a movie. This happens in our house even today. Gauahar is a part of our family now, we are responsible for her reputation. But I can’t tell her not to work; that right only Zaid has. So I don’t indulge in activities that might bother me.” Despite differing viewpoints, Gauahar and Zaid have continued to nurture a strong, supportive marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2020 and welcomed their first son, Zehaan, in May 2023. In 2025, they were blessed with their second baby boy, expanding their family and happiness.
