“The government has decided that Dr. Manmohan Singh will be cremated with state honours. The last rites will take place on December 28, 2024, at 11:45 am at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a communication.

Several leaders, including President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, chief ministers and foreign leaders paid their last respects to Singh at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.

Singh died on Thursday at the age of 92. The hospital statement attributed his death to “age-related medical conditions” and said he was admitted to the hospital after he “suddenly fainted” at home.

On Friday night, the Union Home Ministry announced that the Center will allocate space for Memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh In Delhi. It said the information has been conveyed to his family and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, who had initially urged the government to allow the former PM’s last rites to be performed at a place where a memorial could be built.
