KL Rahul became the fastest batter to reach the landmark of 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-hander achieved the feat in Match No.40 of the IPL 2025 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, April 22 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The 33-year-old Rahul broke the record of David Warner, who got to the milestone in his 135th innings back in 2020 while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Third in the list is Virat Kohli, who scored his 5000th run back in his 157th innings, playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. AB de Villiers (161) and Shikhar Dhawan (168) are fourth and fifth in the list respectively.
Rahul also became the eighth batter in IPL history to score 5000 runs. The others are Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Dhawan, Warner, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni and de Villiers.

KL Rahul shines again
Rahul has been in brilliant form in the ongoing edition of the IPL, having scored 323 runs from seven games at an average of 64.60 and a strike-rate of 153.80 with three fifties to his name. Against the Super Giants, Rahul racked up a fifty off 40 balls as the Capitals won the match by eight wickets after chasing down a target of 160 with 13 deliveries to spare.
Before the match against LSG, Rahul had also scored fifties against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings. Rahul will look to carry the momentum in DC’s next match against RCB on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
