ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant equals MS Dhoni’s historic record with fifty in Lord’s Test

Rishabh Pant equalled MS Dhoni’s record of most fifties by a visiting wicketkeeper in Test cricket on English soil. The left-hander achieved the feat in the first session of the third day’s play against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Pant came to bat after Chris Woakes got the crucial wicket of Shubman Gill, who broke Virat Kohli’s record for most runs by an Indian captain in a bilateral Test series in England. From there on, Pant put his head down as India finished Day 2 at 145 for three in 43 overs.

Rishabh Pant struggling with injury

Rishabh Pant sustained a painful finger injury on Day 1 of the ongoing Test, leaving the field in the 34th over of England’s innings. He did not return for the remainder of the first innings, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in as his wicketkeeping substitute.

Ahead of Day 2, the BCCI confirmed that Pant was still being evaluated by the medical team, who were closely monitoring the condition of his left index finger.

Despite the discomfort, Pant showed resilience by resuming training on Day 2 of the Lord’s Test, Friday, July 11. The youngster also went through some discomfort while batting in the first session on Day 3.

Pant has had a decent time with the bat in hand after he became just the second wicketkeeper batter in the history of the game to score twin centuries in a Test match during the Leeds Test, joining Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower in an elite list.
