Nitish Kumar Reddy provides update on Rishabh Pant`s finger injury

As Day 1 of the third Test match between India and England concluded, Team India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that the side will receive an update on Rishabh Pant`s injury by the next morning.

“To be honest, I just came out of the field and I do not know anything about it, but since I did not hear anything from anyone, we will get to know tomorrow morning before we go back,” he said.

During the match, Pant left the field after sustaining an injury on his finger while keeping behind the stumps. Following his injury, Dhruv Jurel donned the `Big Gloves`. In the 34th over, which was being bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, Pant dived to pick the ball, but could not manage to get it cleanly in his hands.

Following that, he was seen in a lot of pain and had to leave the field for medical attention. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update on Pant`s injury by sharing a post on X.

“He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh`s absence,” added the BCCI on X. Taking to X:

If Pant`s injury turns out to be severe, it would be a massive blow for Team India as he is one of their best Test batsmen. The left-hander is also the second-highest run-scorer in the series with 342 runs in four innings, with an average of 85.50.

He scored twin centuries at Leeds, with a best score of 134. So far, he has broken plenty of records as a wicketkeeper-batter, especially going ahead of legend MS Dhoni for most Test centuries by a keeper-batter for India and highest run tally by an Asian wicketkeeper in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia (SENA) nations.

England ended Day 1 with a score of 251 runs for the loss of four wickets. Joe Root is still unbeaten on 99 runs off 191 deliveries, including nine boundaries. Along with him is Ben Stokes, who is still at the crease on the score of 39 runs in 102 balls, including three boundaries.
