Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE to play T20I tri-series to prepare for Asia Cup

Pakistan, Afghanistan, and UAE will take part in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah from August 29 to September 7, 2025, just ahead of the Asia Cup. The tournament will follow a double round-robin format, where each team plays the others twice. The top two teams will meet in the final on September 7, with all matches starting at 7 PM local time.

This series is a great opportunity for all three sides to prepare for the Asia Cup. It allows teams to test their playing combinations, build match fitness, and get used to the conditions in the UAE. For Pakistan, the tri-series is key preparation before their Asia Cup opener against Oman on September 12, followed by a high-profile clash with India on September 14.

Afghanistan, who haven’t had many T20I matches recently, will be looking to regain rhythm ahead of their game against Hong Kong on September 9. Meanwhile, UAE, who earned their spot in the Asia Cup by winning the ACC Premier Cup in 2024, will aim to make the most of their home advantage and test themselves against stronger opponents.

The Asia Cup 2025 will run from September 9 to 28, featuring eight teams split into two groups. The top teams will advance to the Super 4 stage, followed by the final. The tournament also acts as valuable preparation ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
