Asia Cup 2025: Lone warrior Kamindu Mendis guides Sri Lanka to 133 runs

In the Asia Cup 2025 `Super Four` match against Pakistan, Sri Lanka managed to post a total of 133 runs for the loss of eight wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Kamindu Mendis played a crucial role in helping the side reach a respectable total. Facing 44 balls, Kamindu garnered 50 runs, which was laced with three boundaries and two maximums.

Having put to bat first, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opening the innings for Lanka, Kusal Mendis departed on the very first ball without scoring any runs.

Star batsman, Pathum Nissanka, who has been a reliable player for the side, too, returned to the pavilion early. Facing seven balls, the right-hander scored eight runs, with the help of a maximum.

Kusal Perera smashed a boundary and a maximum, but his innings was cut short to just 15 runs, which came in 12 balls. Skipper Charith Asalanka accumulated 20 runs off 19 deliveries. His knock was laced with two boundaries and a maximum. Dasun Shanaka, too, departed on a one-ball duck.

Later, Wanindu Hasaranga scored 15 runs after facing 13 balls, which also included two boundaries. Chamika Karunanratne stayed unbeaten on 17 runs and smashed two boundaries in his knock of 21 balls. Along with him, Maheesh Theekshana played one ball and stayed unbeaten without scoring any runs.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed three wickets by conceding 28 runs in his spell of four overs. Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat bagged two wickets each. Bowling four overs, Rauf conceded 37 runs, whereas Talat leaked 18 runs in three overs.

Spinner Abrar Ahmed also registered a wicket for 18 runs in four overs. Faheem Ashraf and skipper Salman Ali Agha went wicketless in the Asia Cup `Super Four` match against Sri Lanka. Completing his quota of four overs, Ashraf conceded 34 runs, and Agha bowled just one over, in which he gave away five runs.

Earlier, the “Men in Green” suffered a humiliating loss against their arch-rivals, Team India, in the `Super Four` match at the Dubai International Stadium. On the other hand, the Lankans too were defeated by Bangladesh by four wickets.
