ICC fines Suryakumar Yadav over comments in India vs Pak Asia Cup match. BCCI appeals decision

India captain Suryakumar Yadav was fined 30 percent of his match fee on Friday for comments made during India’s Asia Cup clash against Pakistan on September 14. His remarks referred to cross-border hostilities between the two nations in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Suryakumar had dedicated India’s seven-wicket victory over Pakistan to the victims of the April attack and to the Indian armed forces, who subsequently carried out retaliatory strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The BCCI, India Today has learned, has lodged an appeal against the penalty imposed on the skipper.

The fine followed match referee Richie Richardson’s decision to reject Suryakumar Yadav’s not guilty plea during an official hearing on Thursday, September 25. The hearing was convened after the Pakistan Cricket Board filed a complaint with the ICC, demanding action against the India captain for comments perceived to carry political undertones.

Notably, Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf was also fined 30 percent of his match fee, while opener Sahibzada Farhan was officially reprimanded for provocative gestures. Both players faced hearings after the BCCI lodged a complaint against them for their conduct during India’s Super 4 victory over Pakistan on Sunday, September 21.
