
In the second ODI match against South Africa, Team India stalwart Virat Kohli played a stunning knock of 135 runs off 120 deliveries. His knock was laced with 11 boundaries and seven maximums.
With this, he broke the record of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar for the player with the most centuries in a single format. Tendulkar has 51 centuries in the longest format of the game. With his 52nd ODI century, Virat has surpassed Tendulkar to become the player with the most centuries in a single format of the game.
The 37-year-old batsman also surpassed Sachin in two more aspects, registering his sixth ODI ton against South Africa, outdoing Sachin and David Warner.
The Delhi-born cricketer also broke Tendulkar`s record for the most fifty-plus scores at home by a batsman in ODIs. Kohli registered his 59th fifty-plus score in India, outdoing the previous record of 58 fifty-plus scores held by Tendulkar.
This was also Kohli`s 83rd international century across all three formats of the game.
This is also the 7000th ton in men`s international cricket.
With this ton, he continues his golden run at Ranchi`s JSCA Stadium, with 519 runs in six innings at an average of 173, including three centuries and a fifty, and scoring his runs at a strike rate of 110.19.
This year in ODIs, Virat has scored 484 runs in 11 matches and innings at an average of 53.77 at a strike rate of 89.79, with two centuries and three fifties and a best score of 135.
Having put to bat first in the first ODI, Team India posted a total of 349 runs for the loss of eight wickets at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Jharkhand.
The side lost the early wicket of opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal on 18 runs in 16 balls. His knock included two boundaries and a maximum. Rohit Sharma accumulated 57 runs off 51 balls, with the help of five boundaries and three maximums. Skipper KL Rahul also departed after scoring 60 runs in 56 balls, with the help of two boundaries and three maximums.
Ravindra Jadeja, too, managed to score 32 runs after facing 20 balls, and smashed two boundaries and a maximum.
