The passing of legendary actor Dharmendra last month left a huge void in Hindi cinema, as fans and celebrities continue to mourn the loss of the beloved star.
Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Karan Deol, along with other family members, arrived in Haridwar to perform the final ritual on 2nd December. On 3rd December, Dharmendra`s ashes were immersed in the holy Ganga River at Har Ki Pauri.
Karan Deol immersed grandfather Dharmendra`s ashes
The ritual was performed by Dharmendra`s grandson Karan Deol, revealed priest Rohit Shrotriya, who shared details of the ceremony with ANI.
Karan and his brother Rajveer Deol shared a close bond with their grandfather, Dharmendra. Karan often expressed his affection by posting photos of the two of them on social media, giving glimpses of their special moments together. Notably, on 25th November, Karan had stepped forward with quiet strength to fulfil his final duty and carry the Sholay icon’s ashes from Mumbai’s Pawan Hans crematorium.
While sharing details about immersion, priest Rohit Shrotriya remarked, “Their family members came here… They wanted to immerse the ashes at Har Ki Pauri, but for some reason, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol could not go, and Dharmendra ji`s grandson Karan(Deol) performed the immersion of the ashes… The ritual of `pind daan` was also performed… Sunny Deol`s entire family, Bobby Deol`s entire family, was involved in this”
The priest noted that the pre-immersion rituals were completed at a private hotel.
All about Dharmendra`s demise
Dharmendra died at the age of 89 on November 24, only days before his 90th birthday on December 8. The actor had been unwell for quite some time before being admitted to the hospital on November 10. Later, he was released from Mumbai`s Breach Candy Hospital and was recovering at home.
He was cremated in Mumbai on November 25 in the presence of his family and film industry associates. Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Salim Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan were all seen at the crematorium paying their final respects.
On November 27, a prayer meeting in memory of the late actor was conducted in Mumbai. The Deol family hosted the prayer meeting, known as Celebration of Life. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rekha, and Aishwarya Rai were among those who attended the prayer meeting.
Hema Malini is Dharmendra`s second wife; the renowned actor previously married Prakash Kaur. Prakash married Dharmendra in 1954 and had four children: Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajeeta. Hema and Dharmendra have two daughters: Esha and Ahana.
