Listen: Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy says Baltimore has moved on from controversial loss to Steelers

Various NFL players: Hey, it’s Russell Wilson. This is Joe Montana. This is Dak Prescott. Hey, it’s Jason Kelce. You are listening to Rob Maddy. Rob Maddi, Rob Maddi, Rob Maddi.

MAADDI: Welcome to football. I’m Rob Maddy. Gearing up for Week 15, some big showdowns in the NFL. Bills-Patriots, Packers-Broncos, Eagles stumbling. The Chiefs, well, they’re on the verge of elimination, and Philip Rivers is back in the NFL. Yes, 44-year-old Philip Rivers is back in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. Our special guest this week is Ravens linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Stay tuned for that conversation.

The Indianapolis Colts are desperate to save their season. They lost Daniel Jones to an Achilles injury. Backup Riley Leonard went down with a knee injury, so they turned to former quarterback Philip Rivers, who has been coaching high school football for the past five years. Phillips is eligible for the Hall of Fame. He is a semi-finalist, but he will no longer be because he is coming back to play for the Indianapolis Colts. There is an introduction between him and head coach Shane Steichen. He was the offensive coordinator when both were with the Chargers. My concern isn’t with Philip Rivers’ ability to handle the mental aspect of playing quarterback. He knows the plays, he knows the system. It’s whether he can handle the physicality of playing quarterback in the NFL. After being on the sidelines for the past few years, I watched him on television at his news conference. It looked as if he had gained a few pounds since he last played. I don’t know if Philip Rivers is physically ready to handle it, but I can tell you that the Indianapolis Colts are must-see TV right now.

Kyle Van Noy is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He was a Pro Bowl linebacker last season. And Kyle does a lot of good work in the community. Kyle, it’s great to have you on the show, man. You guys are coming off a really bad loss to Pittsburgh. How long will that happen – especially the way things unfolded there. Catch, no catch, everything, how it happened. How much time, does he sit longer than others, or do you really have no time for him? You want to move on to the next part with Joe Burrow and the Bengals?

Van Noy: Yeah, you have to put another one in there. You have to pick Travis Jones where he also beats the long snapper in the head. This turned into an extra four points. So there were a lot of calls. But you know, I think the biggest thing is that you have to accept it. occurred. It’s all over. It is what it is. And you have to do everything in your power, and everyone else has to do their 1/11 when they’re out there so that they don’t even get called because you’re playing so well. And I think the biggest focus for us is let’s get back to dominating our 1/11, not worrying about what everyone else is doing. The ref says, OK, you get a bad call, line it up again and dominate your 1/11 assignment. And I think that’s our main focus after a loss like this. It sucks, it’s not easy, but we’ve got a tough opponent who has been playing well since Joe Burrow came back. Their offense worked well against us in the first game. They also had five turnovers, which helped them. Then they go to Buffalo and add another 30 points. So we went all out, and then defensively they did a good job against us in the first game, and then in Buffalo, they had some ups and downs. You know, ultimately unfortunately they’re going to lose. But for us, we just have to come up with the mentality of one more 0. We’re going to get their best shot. They are playing on the house’s money. They don’t have to, they can take off the chamber just like we have to take off our chamber because they want to win. He got pride. They’re not playing for a playoff spot. we are. And for them it’s like, ‘Oh, we’ll knock the Ravens out of playoff contention.’ As it is, that’s our playoff game. So we have to do everything we can to stop this from happening.

Maddi: You’ve played on some great teams that have won a few Super Bowls in New England with the Patriots. You’ve been, you’ve seen Tom Brady up close and personal in action. Lamar is a completely different player who is a tremendous MVP-caliber player in his own right. What’s it like seeing him in practice? How can you compare going up against Tom a decade ago and going up against Lamar now? Just watching him practice.

Van Noy: He’s one of them. They’re completely different quarterbacks, but they have the same impact. They instill fear in other teams, offense and defense, put pressure on them, like, hey, we better get going because if not, this guy is coming. That’s the type of quarterback you want. I’m so grateful to see Lamar from when I first came here to where he is now. And I’m so grateful for the friendship we’ve had over the years. And just to see his leadership development as well as his playing ability. And he’s becoming a player who passes the football. And that’s what you want to see in a quarterback, development in the NFL. If it’s not something he’s completely comfortable with, like not being a quarterback or being a running back and how he’s proven all those people who were right, like his mom and himself, by saying, yes, I am, and I’m going to show you. And he’s done it year after year, year after year. And this year, he’s doing a good job, even though, you know, his stats aren’t where they should be. Many drops have fallen. There have been a lot of mistakes and accidents, but you can see it through. They are on the verge of it. You know, I believe in LJ. He’s a really good football player, and I’m confident they’re going to be aggressive, and we’re going to play a great team football game where we’ll look back and say, ‘Oh yeah, that was the turning point.’

Maddi: Kyle, players get a lot of accolades and awards for their performance on the field. You were a Pro Bowler in the NFL last year and now you’ve been nominated for the Art Rooney Award for sportsmanship, which I think is one of the coolest things. What does it mean to you, even to be recognized as a nominee?

Van Noy: Yeah, I feel really blessed about that. I don’t know if they could have said that at the beginning of my career. I loved getting involved, talking trash and, you know, all that good stuff. But now I really believe in playing the game the right way, which gives me a lot on and off the field, and I just want to shine the light that I am a complete player myself. I will try to do the right things on and off the field. I want to be a light for little kids out there, like man, you can have it all. You can have a family, you can have great kids and you can still play in the NFL and work outside of the NFL. You really can have it all if that’s what you really want. And hopefully we can get that award from home at the Van Noy House and I would be honored to receive it.

MAADDI: Time for some pro picks. Last week the four pack was two and two, straight up and against the spread. Overall, 41-14-1, straight up, against the numbers, 34-21-1. My best bet, Carolina 7-6, 3-10 at New Orleans. The Panthers are 2.5-point favorites and they control their playoff hopes. They have already lost to the Saints at home. They won’t overlook New Orleans after seeing them beat Tampa Bay on the road last week. Bryce Young had a great game in a stunning upset over the Rams before taking a week off. Carolina has been inconsistent. Some impressive wins over the Packers and Rams. They had some lopsided losses to the Bills and Patriots. They have lost 11 consecutive games as favourites. not this time. Panthers, 23-17. My Upset Special 11-3 is straight up and against the spread. Looking at the Lions, who are 8-5 in LA against the Rams. They are 10-3. Rams are favorites by five and a half points. Jared Goff is 2-1 against Matthew Stafford since they were swapped for each other. This also includes playoff wins. But the Rams already got their Super Bowl win from Stafford. The Lions are still looking to go there with Jared Goff. They have a tough road ahead to reach the playoffs, and it starts this week in LA. Now Goff and coach Dan Campbell are 23-12 against the spread as underdogs. Meanwhile, the Rams are 16-3 against the spread in December since 2021. something’s Gotta Give. I’m taking the more desperate team, the Lions, 27-26. Next, I’m going to Baltimore, to Cincinnati. The crows are 6-7. The Bengals are 4-9. The Ravens are two and a half point favorites. Facing perhaps the league’s worst defense. We’ll finally get to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense. They have no margin for error after their crushing loss to the Steelers. Some controversial plays, like you heard from Kyle Van Noy. Joe Burrow and the Bengals, they’re playing spoiler. They already won in Baltimore on Thanksgiving. Jackson is 6-2 against Borough. Make it 7-2. Ravens, 29-24. Finally, I’ll go to one of those big games. Buffalo, 9-4, at New England, 11-2. Yet the patriots are domestic Dalits. The Bills are one-point favorites. The Patriots have won 10 in a row. The Bills started the season 4–0 before losing to New England at home in Week 4. And New England kept winning. It looks like Josh Allen vs. Drake Mays is going to be the headline of the next decade in the AFC East. The Bills rallied through a snowstorm to defeat Burrow and the Bengals last week. The Patriots rested. Mike Vrabel’s teams at Tennessee were 6–1 overall and 6–1 against byes. He is in New England. They are the cause of the loss. I think Buffalo avenged the Week 4 loss at home. Bill 27-24.

That’s all for this week. Thanks to Kyle Van Noy. Thanks for listening to Football. And thanks to Haya Panjwani and Guillermo Gonzalez for producing this episode. Please visit News.com for complete pro picks, football analysis and more NFL news.
