South Western Railways has announced a special train service for the Christmas and New Year travel rush, while also cautioning passengers that essential engineering work will affect the normal operation of a number of trains on specific dates. The special service is aimed at reducing congestion and improving connectivity for passengers traveling on major Karnataka routes during the peak holiday week.

Special train service on 24th December

As per the announcement, a special service will run on December 24, which will connect Hubli, Yesvantpur and Vijayapura via major junctions. The first phase, train number 07379, will depart from Hubli at 12.00 noon and reach Yeshwantpur at 8.30 pm.

En route, it will pass through Haveri, Harihar, Davanagere, Arsikere and Tumakuru, making it a convenient option for commuters traveling towards Bengaluru from the northern part of the state.

Engineering work between Tumakuru and Mallasanara

Along with the announcement of the special train, South Western Railways said that necessary engineering works between Tumakuru and Mallasanara may lead to schedule changes and operational adjustments for many services. For daily commuters and intercity commuters, this matters as Tumakuru is an important corridor for rail movement in and out of Bengaluru.

Changes depending on the train are scheduled for December 17, 20, 21 and 24, meaning passengers traveling close to the holiday dates should double-check boarding and terminating stations.

What should passengers do now

With a special train added for December 24 and several disruptions in mid and late December, passengers should plan with additional buffer time, especially for passengers relying on Tumakuru corridor trains and boarding from KSR Bengaluru or Tumakuru.

Checking updated train running status and platform information closer to the time of journey can prevent last minute surprises, especially for passengers who may need to reach Dodbele, Arsikere, or Chikkabanavara due to revised start and end points.
