Jemimah Rodrigues subtly hits back at Smriti Mandhana’s trolls after landmark T20I vs Sri Lanka

Jemimah Rodrigues subtly responded to trolls targeting Smriti Mandhana while congratulating the Indian batter on a major milestone. On Sunday, December 21, during the opening Women’s T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam, Mandhana became the first Indian and the second overall after New Zealand’s Suzie Bates to score 4,000 runs in Women’s T20Is.

While congratulating Mandhana, Jemimah wrote, “She’s my sister,” followed by, “Also crazy biceps,” subtly addressing the online comments about Mandhana’s physique.

Earlier this month, Mandhana had attended the OnePlus launch event at Bengaluru Palace, wearing a stunning white, floor-length gown. While her poised and elegant appearance drew widespread admiration, some social media users focused on her athletic frame and broad shoulders rather than celebrating her accomplishments.

Mandhana had a challenging outing in the opening T20I, even though India registered a commanding eight-wicket victory to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The left-hander made history but managed only a run-a-ball 25, hitting four fours before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera.

She also struggled in the field, dropping a catch off Shree Charani that gave Vishmi Gunaratne a lifeline. Gunaratne attempted to clear the long-off boundary, but the ball went straight to Mandhana, who fumbled and deflected it over the ropes for a six.

Jemimah played a match-winning innings on Sunday. Chasing 122 in favourable batting conditions, she remained unbeaten on 69 off 44 balls, hitting 10 fours and anchoring the chase with crucial partnerships, including a 54-run stand with Smriti Mandhana and a 55-run unbroken stand with captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

India reached the target in 14.4 overs with 32 balls to spare, securing a vital series lead. Her aggressive yet controlled knock kept India in command throughout the chase. Jemimah will look to continue her impressive form in the second T20I on Tuesday, December 23, in Visakhapatnam.
