Planned power disruptions will continue in parts of Bengaluru on December 25 as the city’s power utility carries out scheduled maintenance and infrastructure upgrade works. The previously announced shutdown is part of routine efforts to improve network reliability and prevent unscheduled outages, officials said.
According to Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited, power supply will remain temporarily suspended in select areas in parts of South, West and Central Bengaluru during the day on Wednesday.
power cut time
The power cut is expected to be in effect from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm depending on the feeder and the nature of maintenance work being carried out. If the work is completed before the scheduled time, supply may be restored earlier in some places, while in others it may be extended till the evening.
BESCOM officials said the daytime outages are being scheduled to ensure the safety of maintenance workers and reduce the risk of sudden outages during evening peak demand.
Areas likely to be affected
Based on the subdivision-level maintenance schedule, power supply is likely to be disrupted in parts of the following areas:
In South Bengaluru, residents in Padmanabhanagar, Subramanyapura, Uttarahalli, Banashankari Phase 2 and 3, ISRO Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout, Jayanagar 7th and 8th Block and surrounding residential areas may experience power cuts.
In West Bengaluru, parts of Vijayanagar, RPC Layout, Nagarbhavi, Chandra Layout, Attiguppe, Basaveshwaranagar and Magadi Road are likely to be affected during the shutdown.
Depending on the working of live lines and transformers, some feeder-related disruptions are also expected in nearby areas like Girinagar, Hosakerehalli, Kengeri Satellite Town and parts of Rajajinagar.
BESCOM has advised residents to check local subdivision notices or contact the 1912 helpline for feeder-specific confirmation, as the exact impact may vary even within the same neighbourhood.
why is electricity being cut
Officials said the planned outages are required for a number of works, including replacing old cables, maintenance of transformers, strengthening distribution lines and preventive repairs at substations.
These upgrades are intended to reduce technical faults, prevent overload-related failures and improve overall power quality, particularly in areas that experience high residential and commercial demand.
The December maintenance program is also intended to prepare the network for the increase in electricity use during the end-of-year period, when domestic and commercial consumption typically increases.
What should residents do
Residents in affected areas are advised to plan in advance for daytime outages. BESCOM recommended that households charge mobile phones, laptops and power banks in advance, run water pumps before the shutdown window and have emergency lights or inverter systems ready.
Shops, clinics and offices that depend on continuous power supply are advised to arrange for backup power where possible, especially if sensitive equipment is in use. Apartment associations are also encouraged to notify residents in advance and ensure that common area backup systems are functional.
Possible expansion and additional cuts
BESCOM has indicated that similar scheduled outages may continue in the coming days in various parts of the city as part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades. Residents are advised to stay updated through official notices, local ward offices, or the BESCOM website and helpline.
Officials stressed that while temporary inconvenience during maintenance work is unavoidable, the planned shutdown helps prevent longer and more disruptive outages in the future.
what to see
Power supply is expected to resume gradually once the maintenance is completed. However, if technical problems arise during energization, there may be brief outages or delayed restoration in some areas.
Residents have been advised to switch off sensitive appliances during the period of cut and wait for a few minutes before switching them back on once the supply resumes.
