Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen announced on Thursday that she was withdrawing from the Australian Open later this month due to a lack of physical conditioning. “After careful evaluation by my team and following medical advice, I will be withdrawing from the Australian Open,” Zheng wrote on Instagram.”

She underwent elbow surgery after a first-round loss at Wimbledon in July, and later withdrew from the third round of the China Open in September, admitting she had rushed her return.
