Pune Election Results 2026 Live: Pune residents cast their votes on Thursday to elect 165 corporators across 41 wards.

Pune PMC Election Result 2026 Live Updates: Counting of votes for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections will begin today along with the results of 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra. Apart from Pune, voting took place in major urban centers across the state including Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik and Pimpri-Chinchwad on Thursday (January 15).

The fight is being keenly watched in Pune and neighboring Pimpri Chinchwad, with both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) joining hands for the first time after their separation in 2023. Ajit Pawar’s NCP has formed an alliance with his uncle Sharad Pawar’s faction – NCP (SP) – to take on ruling ally, BJP, in the municipal elections.

Pune uses a multi-member ward system. Under this arrangement, each municipal ward elects three or four corporators instead of one representative. There are 41 wards in Pune Municipal Corporation. Each ward elects four corporators, taking the total strength of the general body to 162 members. As a result, voters have to cast more than one vote.

During the early hours of voting on Thursday, isolated technical problems were reported with electronic voting machines (EVMs) at some places in Pune. However, election officials said the malfunctioning machines were immediately replaced in line with prescribed procedures.

According to the State Election Commission (SEC), Pune witnessed low voter turnout, reaching around 54 per cent. Meanwhile, the total voting percentage in all 29 municipal corporations till 3:30 pm stood at 41.13 percent. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said that the final figure of voting will be between 46-50 percent.

Counting of votes for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections will also take place today. A total of 1,727,692 voters are registered to elect 32 ward members. The municipal body is divided into 32 wards across the city.

During the 2017 PCMC elections, 128 seats were up for election in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The BJP won the majority by winning 75 seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party won 37 seats.

What happened in 2017?

The last Pune Municipal Corporation elections were held on February 21, 2017 and saw 55.45 percent voting. 1,090 candidates were involved in the race.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a clear majority by securing 97 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 39 seats, followed by Shiv Sena with 10 and Congress with nine. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) won two seats, AIMIM won one seat, while independents and others won four seats.

BJP’s Mukta Tilak became the mayor and Navant Kamble was elected the deputy mayor.

Pune Election Result 2026 Live Updates: Maharashtra State Election Commissioner DT Waghmare rejected claims of irregularities related to the use of indelible ink, saying there were no mistakes in the voting process.
