New Delhi: Following the shooting incident at Rohit Shetty’s house, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who has been keeping a low profile since his last release, reportedly received a threatening WhatsApp voice note on Tuesday demanding crores of rupees. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch is investigating the matter, according to a report by India TV.
Authorities were informed after the threat, and the police are currently trying to trace the sender of the voice note. However, no formal complaint has been filed by Ranveer Singh or his team so far.
Ranveer Singh last starred in the 2025 blockbuster spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. Released on December 5, 2025, the film saw him playing an undercover agent in Karachi and went on to gross over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. He is set to return in the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.
Rohit Shetty Firing Incident
This is not the first time a Bollywood celebrity has faced a security scare following the recent firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, according to ANI.
On February 5, Mumbai’s Esplanade Court (Killa Court) sent all five accused in connection with the incident at Shetty’s Juhu residence to six days of police custody. Four individuals had been arrested by Mumbai Police on February 1, shortly after assailants fired four rounds outside the filmmaker’s home. The fifth accused was apprehended on February 5 and presented in court alongside the others.
The judge remanded all five to police custody until February 11, 2026, citing the seriousness of the offence and a criminal conspiracy. The court highlighted the need for detailed investigations and joint interrogations. During the hearing, police informed the court that a social media post had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Authorities revealed that the accused used the Signal app to communicate secretly and that efforts are ongoing to recover deleted messages linked to Shubham Lonkar. The police requested maximum custody for the four previously arrested individuals and a 10-day custody for the fifth accused, Asaram Fasle alias Babu.
Defence lawyers argued that their clients had no direct involvement in the incident. The lawyer for the first accused stated that his client was not present at the scene and had been arrested based on circumstantial evidence, with no proven connection to Shubham Lonkar. The advocates for the other three accused sought judicial custody, noting the police found no involvement beyond allegedly providing a vehicle.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell arrested another accused, Asaram Fasle alias Babu, who reportedly supplied the weapon used in the firing at Shetty’s residence.
