Rajpal Yadav’s debt backstory

In 2010, Rajpal took Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murli Projects Pvt Ltd to make his directorial debut, ‘Ata Pata Laapata’. However, the film didn’t do well at the box office, and the loan remained unpaid. Court records later revealed that seven cheques issued by the actor had bounced. In 2024, the court instructed him to take genuine steps to clear the dues, but after several failures to do so, it ordered him to surrender in February 2026. Before surrendering, Rajpal spoke to Bollywood Hungama and shared an emotional comment.

Rajpal Yadav, discussing his inability to repay the debt years later, told Bollywood Hungama, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta (Sir, what to do? I don’t have the money to pay back. Can’t see another way out).”
