T20 World Cup 2026: Rohit Sharma recalls memories of India-Pakistan contests

In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, Team India managed to secure a dominating victory by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

With this, the “Men in Blue” have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in England. Earlier in the tournament, Team India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan by 61 runs in the group stage match.

Team India veteran Rohit Sharma reflected on the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan. He picked the 2007 final against Pakistan as his favourite match.

“My favourite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan was definitely the final we played, nothing can beat that. We went on to win the World Cup,” said Rohit.

He then recalled the match against the “Green Shirts”, which ended in a bowl-out.

“In that same year (2007), we also played a league game against Pakistan, which was the only match in the tournament decided by a bowl-out, and we came out on top there as well. So in 2007, both World Cup games were special,” recalled the 38-year-old cricketer.

Ahead of the Suryakumar Yadav-led men`s upcoming fixture against the “Three Lions”, the hosts will expect their swashbuckling opening batsman Abhishek Sharma to deliver a big knock. On the other hand, after performing well in the initial matches of the tournament, in-form Ishan Kishan is also struggling to showcase his skills with the willow.

Before Team India`s match, South Africa and New Zealand will clash against each other in the semi-final 1 of the marquee event. The match will be played on March 4 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The title clash of the global showpiece is scheduled to be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
