Dominik Szoboszlai urged his Liverpool teammates to ‘wake up’ after they dropped crucial points in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Szoboszlai’s free-kick (18th min) had put the hosts ahead, but they flattered to deceive against a Tottenham side battling relegation, and eventually conceded in the 90th minute to Spurs striker Richarlison. “We have to wake up because there are eight or nine games left to go and if we keep going like this, next season we should be happy to play [in the] Conference League,” Szoboszlai said. Liverpool are currently fifth in the EPL (49 points in 30 games).
Meanwhile, this was Tottenham’s first point under interim boss Igor Tudor, and the result helped snap a four-game losing streak. “The team spirit was amazing. We hope today is a turning point,” said a hopeful Tudor, whose side are in 16th place, one point above the relegation zone.
